At 5:03 a.m., a police officer observed a black Kia Forte with no lights on and occupied by four people wearing ski masks near Radio Avenue by Route 3 West, Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said. Police attempted to stop the vehicle at Paterson Park Road and Hops Lane, but the vehicle refused to stop, Miller said.

The driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed into a police car, Miller said. Following the crash, all four occupants fled on foot, Miller said. Mutual aid was requested, and a K-9 officer from Little Ferry helped detain a 14-year-old boy Newark who was hiding in a yard while possessing a stolen credit card, Miller said

A 16-year-old Newark boy was arrested in another yard while in possession of a screwdriver, Miller said. Police pursued the other two suspects, tackling a 17-year-old Newark boy and arresting him, Miller said.

The fourth suspect was unable to be located, Miller said. The Kia Forte had been stolen from Irvington and police found a knife and a window glass punch inside the vehicle, Miller said.

The juveniles were charged with receiving stolen property, obstruction, resisting arrest and possession of burglar tools, Miller said. The 14-year-old was charged with possession of credit cards and the 17-year-old was charged with eluding police, Miller said.

The 17-year-old had a monitoring bracelet attached to his ankle and is being held at the Union County Juvenile Detention Facility, Miller said.
